Cinnamon Twisted Donuts Recipe
Ingredients:
For the dough:
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
- ½ cup warm milk (110°F/45°C)
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- ¼ tsp salt
- ¼ cup unsalted butter (softened)
- 1 large egg
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
For the coating:
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
- ¼ cup melted butter (for brushing)
For frying:
- Vegetable oil (for deep frying)
Instructions:
1. Make the Dough:
- In a small bowl, combine warm milk and yeast. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
- In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, and salt.
- Add the yeast mixture, softened butter, egg, and vanilla to the flour mix.
- Knead the dough for 8-10 minutes (or use a mixer with a dough hook) until it’s smooth and elastic.
- Cover and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
2. Shape the Donuts:
- Punch down the dough and roll it out into a rectangle (about ¼ inch thick).
- Cut into strips about 1 inch wide and 6-7 inches long.
- Take two strips, twist them together gently, and pinch the ends to seal.
- Place twisted donuts on a tray lined with parchment paper, cover, and let rise again for 30-45 minutes.
3. Fry the Donuts:
- Heat oil in a deep fryer or heavy pot to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry a few donuts at a time, about 1-2 minutes per side, until golden brown.
- Drain on paper towels.
4. Coat in Cinnamon Sugar:
- While donuts are still warm, brush with melted butter.
- Mix sugar and cinnamon in a shallow bowl, then roll the donuts in the mixture until well coated.
Optional Glaze (instead of cinnamon sugar):
Mix 1 cup powdered sugar with 2 tbsp milk and ½ tsp vanilla. Drizzle or dip.
