Homemade Orange Creamsicle Ice Cream

Homemade Orange Creamsicle Ice Cream
Ingredients:
1 ½ cups (360 ml) heavy cream
1 cup (240 ml) whole milk
¾ cup (150 g) granulated sugar
2 tbsp orange zest (from about 2 large oranges)
¾ cup (180 ml) fresh orange juice
1 tsp vanilla extract
A pinch of salt
Directions:

  1. Prepare the Orange Base:
In a medium saucepan, combine the heavy cream, milk, sugar, and orange zest. Heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the sugar is completely dissolved and the mixture is warm (do not let it boil).
  2. Infuse the Flavor:
Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the mixture sit for 10 minutes to allow the orange zest to infuse its flavor.
  3. Add Orange Juice and Vanilla:
Stir in the fresh orange juice, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Mix well until fully incorporated.
  4. Chill the Mixture:
Pour the orange cream mixture into a bowl and cover it tightly with plastic wrap. Refrigerate for at least 2–4 hours or until thoroughly chilled.
  5. Churn the Ice Cream:
Once chilled, transfer the mixture to an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer’s instructions, usually about 20–25 minutes, until the ice cream reaches a soft-serve consistency.
  6. Freeze to Set:
Scoop the churned ice cream into an airtight container and freeze for 2–3 hours to firm up.
  7. Serve and Enjoy:
Serve the orange ice cream in bowls or cones, and garnish with fresh orange slices or a sprinkle of zest for an extra pop of flavor.

    Helpful Tips:
Creamier Texture: For an ultra-smooth ice cream, strain the mixture before chilling to remove the zest.
Dairy-Free Option: Replace the cream and milk with coconut cream and almond milk for a dairy-free version.
