Southern Fried Salmon Patties

Ingredients:

  • 1 can (14.75 oz) salmon, drained and flaked
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (preferably seasoned)
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion
  • 1/4 cup chopped bell pepper (optional)
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise or mustard (for binding)
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning (optional but recommended)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2-3 tablespoons vegetable oil (for frying)
  • Lemon wedges (optional, for serving)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Salmon: Open the can of salmon and drain well. Remove any skin and bones if desired, then flake the salmon into a large bowl.
  2. Mix the Ingredients: Add the breadcrumbs, chopped onion, bell pepper (if using), egg, mayonnaise or mustard, Worcestershire sauce, Old Bay seasoning, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper to the bowl with the salmon. Mix everything together until well combined. If the mixture is too wet, you can add more breadcrumbs.
  3. Form the Patties: Using your hands, shape the mixture into patties, about 2 to 3 inches in diameter.
  4. Fry the Patties: Heat the vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the patties, being careful not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy. Adjust the heat as needed to avoid burning the patties while ensuring they cook through.
  5. Drain Excess Oil: Once cooked, remove the patties from the skillet and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.
  6. Serve: Serve the salmon patties warm with lemon wedges, tartar sauce, or your favorite dipping sauce.
