Here’s a recipe for Teriyaki Beef and Avocado Rice Stack:
Ingredients:
- For the Teriyaki Beef:
- 1 lb (450g) beef sirloin or flank steak, thinly sliced
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons honey or brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1-inch piece of fresh ginger, grated
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 1 tablespoon water (optional for thickening)
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (optional for garnish)
- For the Rice Stack:
- 2 cups cooked white or brown rice (preferably day-old rice for better texture)
- 1 ripe avocado, sliced
- 1/4 cup thinly sliced green onions
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 teaspoon sesame seeds (for garnish)
- Optional Toppings:
- Pickled ginger
- Cilantro or parsley
- Extra sesame seeds
Instructions:
- Prepare the Teriyaki Beef:
- In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, honey or brown sugar, rice vinegar, sesame oil, garlic, and ginger. If you prefer a thicker sauce, dissolve cornstarch in water and add it to the mixture.
- Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add the beef slices. Cook the beef in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding the pan. Sear the beef on both sides until browned (about 2-3 minutes per side).
- Pour the teriyaki sauce over the beef and cook for another 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens and the beef is well coated. Remove from heat and set aside.
- Prepare the Rice Stack:
- In a bowl, combine the cooked rice with sesame oil, soy sauce, and rice vinegar. Mix well.
- Lightly grease a round mold or a ramekin. Add a layer of rice at the bottom, pressing it gently to compact it. Then add a few slices of avocado on top of the rice. Add a few spoonfuls of the cooked teriyaki beef over the avocado.
- Gently remove the mold, and repeat to stack more layers for additional servings.
- Assemble and Garnish:
- Garnish the stack with sliced green onions, sesame seeds, and extra toppings such as pickled ginger, cilantro, or extra sesame seeds.
- Serve:
- Serve immediately while the rice is warm and the beef is sizzling. Enjoy your Teriyaki Beef and Avocado Rice Stack!
